The history of Sports in the world is as old as human civilization. Nagas were one of the most modern and developed in the field of sports having varied indigenous games since forefather times. In fact, many sports lover are still astonished to discover these traditional sports. And there are many sports event where it can be Internationally popularized if some modification were done.
When we traced back the sport organization in our country and our state, The Senapati District is not legging behind in terms of organizational set up. Though, sadly we could not produced many world class players in any field but nevertheless, there are some sportsmen coming up and some have brought laurel and honour in the last few years ago.
THE GENESIS OF SDOAM.
The apex body in sports of the district is now called SENAPATI DISTRICT OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION,MANIPUR (SDOAM). The genesis of this Association has a humble beginning known by the name, THE MANIPUR NORTH DISTRICT CENTRAL NAGA SPORTS ASSOCIATION. This Association was registered in the tehsil of Senapati District under the societies Registration Act 1860 with a registration no.1029 of 1972. And the Head Office of the association was at Yaikongpao village.
The founding members of the Association were :
- Chairman – K. Pamei (Teacher) from Yaikongpao Village
- V. Chairman – RK.Lungabou (Businessmen) from Thonglang Village
- Gen Secy – TH. Thumbu (Teacher) from T.Khullen Village
- Asst Secy – M. Asoso (Teacher) from Daili Village (Life Member)
- Games Secy – K. Ashiho (Teacher) from Karong Village (Patron Member)
- Asst Games Secy – K. Heni (Teacher) from Karong Village (Patron Member)
- Treasurer – Ch. Ayeo (Teacher) from Tumnoupokpi Village
The main aims and objectives of the founding members were to promote sports in the areas and to help maintained good health. Another objectives of the founders were to promote cultural harmony by exchanging one another view and to strengthen the brotherhood of this areas. The founders also have an aims to disciplined the players by inculcating a good habits helping them to be a good leader.
Again in the year 1998,on the 14″ of July, the nomenclature has been changed into,
“SENAPATI DISTRICT SPORTS ASSOCIATION, MANIPUR” in short known as SDSAM.

With a change of time, the sports association has been changing its nomenclature from time to time that fitted best of its scenario. So again in the year 2018, the apex sports association of the district has come to be known under a new nomenclature called, “SENAPATI DISTRICT OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION, MANIPUR” in short called as “SDOAM”.
